Teach Your Customers How to Use CBD Oil: Sublingual Tinctures

CBD is the hot new product on the market today. Retailers are being inundated with all different types of brands, products and price points. Among them, CBD oil is the most prevalent. Why? Because it’s one of the most effective. But, in carrying CBD, retailers need to teach their customers how to use CBD oil, to make sure they’re getting the most out of it.

Specifically, retailers need to understand sublingual tinctures and why they’re so effective when it comes to taking CBD.

What is a sublingual tincture?

CBD oil in any form is a tincture—a concentrated liquid herbal extract. The ‘sublingual’ part of the equation is how it’s taken: Under the tongue. Sublingual tinctures are easy for anyone to use, since they don’t involve swallowing a pill or smoking anything. Many people prefer this method when they learn how to use CBD oil, since it’s so straightforward.

Why under the tongue?

Sublingual tinctures are an effective way to take CBD because it’s absorbed quickly through our sublingual glands. These are located (you guessed it!) under the tongue. Holding a small amount of CBD oil under the tongue for 60 seconds allows it to quickly enter the bloodstream through these glands.

Our sublingual glands absorb CBD faster than just about any other method (excluding smoking it). When ingested (in food or pill form), your stomach needs to break everything down before CBD is absorbed into the blood stream. Sublingual tinctures cut out the extra steps, introducing you to the benefits of CBD faster.

Educating customers

Customers who know how to properly use CBD products will be more likely to experience their benefits—and in turn, more likely to become a repeat customer. It’s in your best interest to teach them how to use these products and their best interest to learn how to use CBD oil!

Dosing CBD

  • New customers should start with a 500mg dosage, taking 1mL under the tongue.
  • If they feel weak effects or need a stronger dose, move up to a 1000mg dosage.
  • If dealing with a chronic condition like pain, take 1mL 2-3 times per day.
  • Dosages should be taken every 4-5 hours under the tongue.

Taking CBD sublingually

  • Tilt your head back and raise your tongue, exposing the sublingual glands.
  • Use an eyedropper to place 1mL under the tongue.
  • Hold the CBD oil under your tongue for approximately 60 seconds.
  • Swallow the remaining CBD and saliva.

What not to do

Sublingual tinctures should always be used as directed. Many people confuse these products with CBD vape oils, which are formulated differently, so that they’re more easily atomized. Only take sublingual tinctures under the tongue.

Though CBD oil can also be mixed into food (like smoothies), it’s best to have as much as possible absorbed sublingually. This will ensure cannabinoids are absorbed quicker. Those who choose to ingest a sublingual tincture will have to wait longer to experience the benefits and may not get the full effects of CBD at their intended dosage.
