What Is the Difference Between Delta 8 and Delta 9 THC?

Delta 8 and Delta 9 THC have both become more and more popular over the last few years, especially here in Wisconsin. While both compounds stem from the same plant, they have distinct differences in their effects, chemical structures, and availability. 

How Do the Effects Differ?

Delta 9 THC, the primary psychoactive compound found in marijuana, is well-known for producing strong effects such as euphoria, heightened senses, and sometimes, more intense side effects like anxiety or paranoia. Delta 8 THC, on the other hand, is about 66% as potent as Delta 9 when consumed at the same dosage. It generally provides a more clear-headed and mellow experience. Production Process and Availability

Another major difference between Delta 8 and Delta 9 THC is their natural abundance and how they are produced. Delta 9 THC is present in large quantities in hemp and marijuana plants, making its extraction relatively easy through traditional methods. In contrast, Delta 8 THC is only present in very small amounts in both marijuana and hemp plants. As a result, Delta 8 is typically synthesized from CBD extracted from hemp. This process often involves converting CBD into Delta 8 THC through chemical reactions, making production more complex compared to Delta 9.
